Poorly drained soils and excessive watering will damage coleus. These new, bigger, sun loving varieties have revolutionized contanier gardening. Coleus must have good soil drainage. For zones 10-11, this plant can also be a perennial. The brilliant colors explode in sunny locations. Plants suffering from "wet feet" will be stunted, leaves will turn a muddy brown, and leaf margins will be scorched. Frost will cause them to die immediately. The coleus plants are a tender perennials. The Coleus Merlot, 'Coleus hybrid', has dark merlot foliage with the leaves developing a green picotee (point) as they age. Coleus plants are durable and easy to grow.

Save your unused vegetable garden seeds for next year's planting.  The best method of storage is an airtight container in the refrigerator.
