To Grow From Seeds Or Not To?

That is one of the most basic questions gardeners have to answer for themselves. Seeds are a huge benefit to gardeners in many ways. There are always vast quantities of them available and even early in the year. But, there are many downfalls to using them as well. It will all come down to this. How much time and money do you want to invest in your garden? Once you have determined whether you will grow from seed or not, the work will be cut out for you. But, making this decision may be a difficult one for some.

One of the reasons people love to garden is that they are helping to bring to life a living thing. By nurturing it, they are helping it to grow and prosper. Many gardeners like this to begin with the seed. There are many advantages to using seed as well. By starting your plants from a seed, you know what chemicals, if any, were used. You know what has happened to your plant from the beginning if it has been exposed to anything or improperly cared for. But, the disadvantages are there as well. For one, growing from seed can be time consuming. You will need to invest in the proper products to start your seeds. Most of the time growing seeds needs to be done in early spring, and indoors. There is always the issue of having enough room, enough sun and enough heat to make them grow.

In the end the decision to use seed to grow your plants will be up to you. Just remember to know what you are growing and to follow the directions for that specific plant. Some of these need to be soaked in water overnight, while others need a specific type of soil to grow well in. Be patient as well. It takes the seed a long time to wake up and begin to sprout. Do not over or under water it. Do not expose it to frost either. But, don’t forget to enjoy the new life you are helping to nurture either. There is a true sense of pride in knowing that you have created something so successfully.

Plant strawberries by digging a V-shaped hole about 8 inches deep.  Spread the roots out, place the roots against the side of the hole, then push soil against the roots.  As the plant sends out runner, trim all but the best six runners for an abundant crop.
