The Spiraea 'Tor', Spiraea betuliflia 'Tor', is a compact Spiraea reaching a height and width of 2-3 ft. Because of its small size and excellent attributes, Tor Spiraea makes a great foundation shrub. The flowers are attractive to butterflies. Foliage turns a deep, purplish-red in the fall. Tor blooms on new wood, so pruning in late winter or early spring is recommended. Light shearing will encourage repeat bloom. Its tiny white flower clusters are set against a backdrop of deep green leaves that are almost iridescent in the summer.

Prevent deer from devoring your precious garden by planting, aromatic herbs, strongly scented, prickly plants, rampantly spreading plants, ornamental grasses, and vining plants. Some plants to use are lemon thyme, spearmint, common foxgloves, and thorny blackberries.
