Purchasing Spring Bulbs, Are You?

If you are in the mood for spring, planting spring bulbs may just be the best medicine. They offer a sense of life and birth because you know how wonderful they will look when the pop out after winters harshness. What about those bulbs? Do you know where to purchase your spring bulbs? Do you even know when you should plant them? If not, you will need to get this knowledge long before you head to the gardening center to purchase them.

First, know when to plant. For bulbs that will come up in spring, you will need to plant the bulb the fall before at the latest. There are also bulbs that can be planted in spring that will bulb in fall. Decide which you are looking for then you will be able to work around this. There are many options available to you in these bulbs. There are hyacinths, daffodils, tulips and more. The type of bulbs that will bloom in your area will depend on what climate zone you are in. For example, those that must have a warm to hot climate with full sun exposure will work better in the south. Those that can tolerate freezing weather will do better in the north.

That’s not all you need to consider either. When you are planting the bulbs, you will most likely need to do so in the proper type of soil with any additions added in as well. The bulb will need to be place within the hole in a specific manner as well. The specifics will depend on what type of flowering bulb your purchase. But, regardless of the work involved with these bulbs, you are sure to be able to enjoy these beautiful flowers. Many of them will continue to come in year after year to add color and life to your garden.

Prevent deer from devoring your precious garden by planting, aromatic herbs, strongly scented, prickly plants, rampantly spreading plants, ornamental grasses, and vining plants. Some plants to use are lemon thyme, spearmint, common foxgloves, and thorny blackberries.
